Farming God's Way

I believe that if human beings live God's way, then things will go better. An example I recently found is Farming God's Way. They work mainly in Kenya, and have shown that doing things God's way doubles yields. By 'God's way' they mean responsibility for the environment and working with, rather than against, nature, including eschewing chemical farming.

As Craig Sorley, who works there, was reported as saying, "You mess with one part of God's creation and you'll pay for it another." He was remarking on a problem he had just been presented with: Deforestation meant that raptors had left the area, so rats were no longer caught, and these had begun to decimate maize crops by creeping underneath the mulch that had been put down after sowing the seeds. The eucalyptus trees planted in place of the original trees were no use for nesting. The immediate answer was to let the maize sprout before laying the mulch - but it would have been better not to have killed all the trees. Farming God's Way is run by the organisation, Kenya Care of Creation, which organises workshops for farmers. But this is undertaken as part of a more holistic vision, which is explained in the following pages ...

Care of Creation Kenya

I looked at three web pages, of which the third mentions their Farming God's Way Workshops:

Home page http://kenya.careofcreation.net/:

"We are working to help the church capture and implement a biblical vision that responds to the serious environmental challenges facing Kenya. Our vision is to see Christians glorifying God by taking excellent care of the environment, so today's children may enjoy a brighter future"

The 'Who We Are' page http://kenya.careofcreation.net/who-we-are/ explains more:

"Care of Creation Kenya (CCK) is a missions organization and registered NGO that combines efforts in caring for God's creation with a commitment to fulfilling the Great Commandment (Matt 22: 37-39) and the Great Commission (Matt 28: 19-20).

Similar to medical or agricultural missions, our ministry is a vision casting, training and discipleship ministry that seeks to demonstrate the fullness of Christ's love to people, both physically and spiritually.

Africa today is afflicted by a wide range of environmental concerns that intensify the suffering of people and perpetuate the problems of hunger, disease, and death. Our goal is to stimulate and equip Christians to effectively address these concerns. Maintaining the integrity and goodness of what God has created is essential to the well-being of people.

CCK's hope is that vast numbers of [who_002] God's people (believers and church leaders) will capture and implement a God-centered vision for their land, and that such a vision will enhance the Christ-like witness of the Church.

CCK is the Kenyan branch of Care of Creation USA, which was formed in 2005 to bring together two important themes:Â Love for God's people, and love for God's creation."

One of their newsletters speaks of their workshops. See http://news.careofcreation.net/2009/09/12/kenya-and-usa-update-and-projects/, of which there seemed to be about two dozen available. It gives honest news about their demonstration plot in Kenya, then towards the end it mentions their workshops:

"Farming God's Way Workshops. These are 2 - 3 day workshops in Kenya that are presented to pastors and farmers. They outline the biblical basis for creation care and do the initial training required for the Farming God's Way agriculture."
