Progressive is not Green

It is usually thought that those who urge climate and environmental responsibility (the Greens) are part of the so-called progressive movement, but this is not so. Progressivism centres on 'me', on who I am, on freedom for me and my kind; climate and environmental responsibility centres on interconnectedness, centres on others. At root they are opposites.

In many cases, are not progressive causes an expression of self-expression, self-approbation, self-fulfilment, self-gratification, self-promotion? Green causes (when not corrupted by self-xxx) are other-centred - future generations, the planet, other species, improverished peoples on Earth.

There are two apparent links between them. One is that both are against what is conceived as the status quo. The other is that often the cohorts espoused by progressives are those who have been marginalized or oppressed in the past, i.e. denied self-fulfilment, self-approbation, self-expression, self-promotion in the past because of how, it is thought, the status quo has oppressed and constricted them. But concern for the latter soon slides into encouraging the latter into shouting about themselves, into pride that is divisive and comes across as aggressive.

But the motivation is completely opposite, on the one hand responsibility towards others, on the other, me-and-my-rights.
